Sonny Parlin

I’ve been training jiu jitsu since September, 2007. I received my blue belt from Royce Gracie in 2008. Shortly after receiving my blue belt I became an instructor for Royce in Boston and at the University of Connecticut. At the end of 2009 I changed affiliations and became a member of Team DeLima. I was promoted to purple belt in June 2010 by Marco DeLima. Marco is an amazing instructor and practitioner of jiu jitsu and I’m proud to be part of Team DeLima!

For me, Jiu Jitsu is more than a martial art. It’s a community, a brotherhood and a doctrine to continuously improve oneself both on and off the mat. I truly believe that I am a better human being because of this doctrine. How? It’s simple. There are emotional, mental and physical challenges that we are faced with when we are on the mat. Learning how to deal with those challenges on the mat translates into how we deal with them off the mat.

I love this art. I love learning and growing with my Jiu Jitsu brothers and sisters. I recently reached a new level in my training and I feel now more than ever that I am just an infant in this art. I have new challenges ahead of me and I’m excited to continue my growth as a student, an instructor and a person.
